With the current high oil prices, oil refined from shale is now usually a commercially viable development scenario and with many years of exploration having been conducted on the deposits, Daley Resources Pty Ltd is looking for partners to assist in extracting the oil shales for refining into synthetic crude.
Daley Resources Pty Ltd holds a 61 square kilometre area over the Latrobe/Railton area - which it says hosts some of the most significant oil shale deposits in the state and is looking for developers to farm into the project.
Tasmanian government reports indicate over 1.6 million litres of oil was produced up until the 1930s through oil shale production.
The most recent exploration was done by CRA in conjunction with Endeavour Resources, with the Tasmanian Hydro-Electric Commission being charged with assessing and running feasibility over the State’s possible energy resources.
The Commission competed its most recent study in 1987, which outlined an assumed recoverable oil shale resource of 40 million tonnes over 20 years which would yield 1.65 million barrels of synthetic crude oil per year.
